Shopfloor SF · Fall 2026

Take young people where the work gets made.

San Francisco has the highest concentration of startups on earth, and a generation of hard-tech companies being built here at an unprecedented pace. Almost none of the young people who live in the city have been inside one. Shopfloor changes that.

Career imagination forms before career choice.

San Francisco's hard-tech startups are building the American industrial future a few miles from the high schools and workforce programs of the city. Most young people who live here have never been inside one. They cannot apply to careers they have not seen exist.

Shopfloor is the bridge.

Structured exposure to the physical-world economy.

Shopfloor is a structured visit program. Young people walk through active prototyping environments, meet operators and technicians (not only founders), and leave with a concrete, named picture of careers they had not previously considered.

The Cohort

Young people ages 16 through 24, referred through partner programs and SFUSD high schools. Fifteen to twenty-five young people per visit.

The Visit

One to two hours of floor time at a host company. A founder or senior operator hosts the first portion. A front-line operator or technician hosts the second: a test engineer, a machinist, a site manager. The point is the work, not the founder.

The Scale

Four to six founding host companies. Multiple cohorts across fall 2026. Published outcomes and a documented playbook by year-end. The founding coalition is being assembled now.

The Outcome

A young person who can name three jobs that exist in the city's industrial economy, has talked to someone doing one of them, and is a credible applicant for an internship or apprenticeship in that direction within the next twelve months.

In partnership with

Shopfloor pairs IndustriousAF with New Door Ventures, a Bay Area workforce organization that prepares young people for work and life. The combination is the founding bet of the program: the city's hard-tech builders, and the institution best positioned to put young people from across the Bay onto their floors.

For Founders

Host a visit at your company.

One to two hours, one founding cohort. Twenty young people on your shop floor. Standard visitor protocols. New Door handles consent and insurance. The lift is small. The signal you send to the city's next generation of builders is not.

For educators and youth programs

Send your young people.

Principals, CTE coordinators, counselors, and workforce program directors. If you serve high schoolers or young adults in San Francisco, Shopfloor will run cohorts you can refer young people into starting fall 2026. We coordinate with your existing pathways, not around them.

For Serious Readers

Read the vision.

The Shopfloor vision document is a one-page articulation of where this program is going: the chapter network, the talent-association model, and what gets built when this works at scale. For funders, advisors, and anyone evaluating the bigger frame.
